Restorative Yoga

In Restorative yoga, the goal is to offer the body a chance, through time and patience to return to optimal health. With this yoga we remember how to listen to ourselves, by noticing somatically where we are holding tension, and then learn how to release it.

Restorative yoga is essentially nervous system yoga - it encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Appropriate for all levels, restorative yoga is practiced at a slow pace, using long-held, supported resting poses focusing on stillness and deep breathing.

While it is highly effective as a physical recovery practice, restorative yoga can be much more: At its deepest level we may cultivate conscious relaxation, and release habitual tension in the body, mind, and nervous system.

We are learning how to work with our own relaxation response, so that we may down-regulate our nervous system through our own internal skillsets… and we will learn a few things about ourselves in the process.

Help for Intrumental Musicians

David Wilson offers one-on-one sessions on reversing the effects of Repetitive Stress Syndrome (muscle tension and breathing issues) for players from beginners to professional.

Restorative yoga, myo-fascial work and breath therapy are specifically focussed to the physical challenges created though years of playing an instrument, as well as those issues that stem from over-sitting.

As a musician, conductor and senior yoga teacher-trainer, David has spent over 25 years working with orchestral players. He has perfected a series of safe and effective therapeutic exercises specifically geared toward each orchestral category.

The Wilson Method for Instrumentalists has a solution for each voice of the orchestral family. Musicians will go home with a set of full-body exercises and stretches specifically targeting the issues and challenges created by playing their instruments.

Strings, winds, brass, percussionists and pianists have all found these sessions extremely effective.

Online sessions are available, as are workshops in The Wilson Method for Instrumentalists.

David offers:

  • Online sessions

  • In-person sessions from his Edmonton home studio

  • On-location group workshops

Sessions are available weekdays from 9am-5pm, MST/MDT.
